  4. EASY INSTALLATION
  5. To initiate Easy Install,
  6. click EASY on the Install
  7. dialog box, then click on the
  8. Done button.
  9.  
  10. The Easy Install option will
  11. inspect your system and
  12. automatically select the hard
  13. drive in your computer with
  14. the largest amount of free
  15. disk space. INSTALL will then
  16. perform a MEDIUM installation
  17. (requiring 8MB free disk
  18. space) if there is 8MB or
  19. more of free space; otherwise
  20. it will default to the
  21. MINIMUM installation
  22. (requiring 4MB free disk
  23. space.) This is the easiest
  24. installation method, however
  25. game play may be slower if
  26. only a minimum installation
  27. is possible as the game will
  28. have to read more frequently
  29. from the Orion Burger CD.

  32. ADVANCED INSTALLATION
  33.  
  34. To initiate Advanced Install,
  35. click ADVANCED on the Install
  36. dialog box, then click on the
  37. Done button.

  39. The Advanced Install option
  40. allows you to customize
  41. installation of Orion Burger.
  42. You may specify where the
  43. game will be installed (drive
  44. and directory) and the amount
  45. of data that will be
  46. transferred from the CD to
  47. your hard drive. Advanced
  48. Install allows you to
  49. configure your music and
  50. digital sound card manually,
  51. and there is also an option
  52. for automatic sound and
  53. speech card configuration.

  55. If you are unfamiliar with
  56. your computer, select Easy
  57. Install for quick, one-step
  58. installation.

  64. The Advanced Install Menu
  65. allows you to customize
  66. installation of Orion Burger.

  68. This menu provides
  69. information about the hard
  70. disks connected to your
  71. computer and how much free
  72. space is available on each.

  74. To install the game in a
  75. directory other than the
  76. default as indicated on the
  77. Advanced Install Menu, click
  78. on the Browse button beside
  79. the directory display window.

  81. To install the game on a hard
  82. drive other than the default
  83. as indicated in the Drive
  84. display window, click on the
  85. Browse button beside the
  86. Drive display window, then
  87. select the directory of your
  88. choice.

  90. To change the size of the
  91. installation, click either
  92. the MINIMUM, MEDIUM or
  93. MAXIMUM button, then click on
  94. Done.

  100. You may select one of three
  101. install sizes:  MINIMUM,
  102. MEDIUM or MAXIMUM. These size
  103. specifications refer to the
  104. amount of data that will be
  105. transferred from the CD to
  106. your hard drive. The size of
  107. installation that you select
  108. will determine the
  109. performance of Orion Burger
  110. when you play the game.
  111.  
  112. For optimum performance
  113. during game play, install the
  114. largest size available to
  115. you.  (If you do not have
  116. adequate free space for a
  117. given install size, its
  118. button will be rendered
  119. inactive.)
  120.  
  121. Free disk space required for
  122. each installation:
  123.  
  124. MINIMUM: 4 Megabytes
  125. MEDIUM:  8 Megbytes
  126. MAXIMUM: 120 Megabytes
  127.  
  128. MINIMUM install transfers the
  129. least amount of data from the
  130. CD to your hard drive, but
  131. game performance will be slow
  132. as your computer will be
  133. required to read from the
  134. Orion Burger CD frequently.
  135.  
  136. If your computer has enough
  137. hard drive space, it is
  138. recommended that you select
  139. MAXIMUM installation. This
  140. will copy the entire Orion
  141. Burger CD to your hard drive
  142. and increase game performance
  143. dramatically.

  150. drive to which Orion Burger
  151. will be installed, click on
  152. the Browse button beside the

  159. Done.

  161. Once your drive selection has
  162. been made, Install will
  163. search for two directories on
  164. your system:

  169. If neither directory is
  170. found, Orion Burger will be
  171. installed into a directory
  172. named \BURGER, off the root
  173. directory.

  197. Certain PC configurations may
  198. cause problems when you try
  199. to run Orion Burger. Please
  200. read the list below and
  201. follow the instructions that
  202. apply to your system
  203. configuration.

  206. RUNNING ORION BURGER UNDER
  207. WINDOWS 95
  208.  
  209. Orion Burger has been tested
  210. and will run under Windows 95
  211. using one the following two
  212. methods:
  213.  
  214. METHOD 1:
  215. Restart your computer and
  216. press F8 [function 8] as
  217. Windows 95 is starting up.
  218. Next, select "previous
  219. version of MS-DOS" from the
  220. Windows 95 startup menu. When
  221. you arrive at the C:\ prompt,
  222. follow the installation and
  223. game playing instructions as
  224. outlined in the Orion Burger
  225. Users Guide. NOTE: This
  226. method is preferred.  Orion
  227. Burger was designed to run on
  228. your previous version of
  229. MS-DOS.
  230.  
  231. METHOD 2:
  232. Allow Windows 95 to start
  233. completely, then select
  234. "shutdown" from the "start"
  235. menu. On the "shutdown" menu,
  236. click on "restart the
  237. computer in MS-DOS mode."
  238. When you arrive at the C:\
  239. prompt, follow the
  240. installation and game playing
  241. instructions normally as
  242. outlined in Orion Burger
  243. Users Guide.
  244.  
  245. NOTE: While Orion Burger
  246. will run using this method,
  247. you are encouraged to try
  248. Method 1 before trying this
  249. method.  If you do choose to
  250. use this method, save your
  251. game frequently.
  252.  
  253. NOTE: Windows 95 controls
  254. system configuration. Should
  255. you encounter any errors,
  256. such as a missing VESA driver
  257. or a missing CD ROM driver,
  258. consult your Windows 95
  259. documentation.
  260.  
  261.  
  262. MEMORY REQUIREMENTS FOR
  263. ORION BURGER
  264.  
  265. Orion Burger requires
  266. at least 6800k of free
  267. extended memory. You can
  268. check the amount of free
  269. memory by using the MEM
  270. command at the C:\ prompt:
  271.  
  272. MEM [ENTER]
  273.  
  274. Under the "Memory Type"
  275. heading, find the
  276. "Extended (XMS)"
  277. line and follow it across to
  278. the right hand side under the
  279. "Free" column. You should see
  280. at least 6800k or more. If
  281. you have less than 6800k
  282. free, remove any RAM disks
  283. that may be running and make
  284. sure that SmartDrive has been
  285. disabled following the
  286. instructions below.
  287.  
  288.  
  289. SYSTEMS WITH 8 MEGABYTES OF
  290. RAM USING SMARTDRIVE
  291. (or other disk cache utility)
  292.  
  293. Orion Burger will not
  294. function properly if you are
  295. using SmartDrive or any other
  296. disk cache utility. In order
  297. to run Orion Burger, you must
  298. remove the line:
  299.  
  300. c:\dos\smartdrv.exe
  301.  
  302. by using a REM statement to
  303. disable it as follows:
  304.  
  305. REM c:\dos\smartdrv.exe
  306.  
  307. If you wish to re-enable
  308. SmartDrive after you have
  309. finished playing Orion
  310. Burger, simply remove the REM
  311. statement at the beginning of
  312. the line.
  313.  
  314. If your computer uses a disk
  315. caching utility other than
  316. SmartDrive, you will need to
  317. consult the utility's
  318. documentation to determine
  319. how to remove the utility
  320. from your system.
  321.  
  322.  
  323. DETECTING SOUND CARDS
  324.  
  325. INSTALL will attempt to
  326. detect the settings of your
  327. sound card if you have
  328. specified which sound card is
  329. installed in your system. The
  330. detect feature can also be
  331. selected manually by clicking
  332. the Detect Settings button.
  333. Some computer configurations
  334. may cause the detection
  335. routines in INSTALL to
  336. 'freeze' or 'hang' your
  337. computer or cause your
  338. computer to reboot.  If you
  339. experience any of these
  340. problems, run SETUP with the
  341. -n parameter from the BURGER
  342. directory:
  343.  
  344. SETUP -n [ENTER]
  345.  
  346. This will disable sound card
  347. detection, and you will need
  348. to enter your sound card's
  349. settings manually in SETUP.
  350. For more information on these
  351. settings, refer to your sound
  352. card documentation.
  353.  
  354.  
  355. ADLIB MSC16 SOUND CARDS
  356. If you have an Adlib MSC16
  357. sound card installed in your
  358. system, you will need to
  359. select "Sound Blaster 8" on
  360. all of the sound  card setup
  361. menus and manually set the
  362. sound card port in INSTALL.
  363. Also, once you have exited
  364. the game and returned to DOS,
  365. you will need to manually
  366. reset your sound card.
  367. Failure to do so may cause
  368. your computer to 'freeze' or
  369. 'hang' the next time you
  370. attempt to run any
  371. application.  To reset your
  372. MSC16 card, type:
  373.  
  374. M16INIT /b [ENTER]
  375.  
  376. at the DOS prompt.
  377.  
  378. You may also restart your
  379. computer to reset the sound
  380. card.
  381.  
  382.  
  383. REVEAL SOUNDFX WAVE 32 SOUND CARDS
  384. If you have a Reveal SoundFX
  385. Wave 32 card installed in
  386. your system, you will need to
  387. select "Soundscape" for the
  388. digital sound setup options
  389. in INSTALL.
